Guidelines for submissions

PROSE

(FICTION, NON-FICTION, PLAYS, LITERARY ESSAYS, RADIO TRANSCRIPTS, ETC):

  • Submit no more than five works, up to 2,500 words each.

  • Files should be in .doc or .docx form.

  • Arial font, size 11 pt, 2.5cm margins.

POETRY

(PROSE POEMS, BALLADS, SONNETS, LIMERICKS, BLANK VERSE, EXPERIMENTAL POETRY, ETC.):

  • Submit no more than five poems, up to 75 lines each.

  • Files should be in .doc or .docx form.

  • Arial font, size 11 pt, 2.5cm margins.

ART

(PAINTINGS, PHOTOGRAPHY, INSTALLATIONS, COMICS, AUDIOVISUAL WORKS, 3D ART, SCULPTURES, PERFORMANCES, ETC.):

  • Submit no more than five works.

  • Please supply images in .png format at actual size and 300dpi.

  • If you would like to submit performance art, a movement piece, or a short film, please email sydneyarts.publications@gmail.com to arrange a time for the editors to see and discuss your performance/short feature.

FINE PRINT:

  • Please remember to title your work and do not include your name in the document for purposes of anonymity.

  • We will NOT be accepting PDFs. Check above for the required file type.

  • File size limit is 16MB. If your work is larger than this, shoot us an email.

  • You can submit up to five works in each section. That means if you are really keen and multi-talented, you can submit up to 15 works overall (5 prose, 5 poetry, 5 visual art).

  • You do NOT need to be an arts student to submit. As long as you’re a current USyd student or alumni, you’re sweet. Budding scientists and education undergrads, please show us how creative you are!

  • Please don’t simultaneously submit the same pieces to ARNA and to Hermes/the USU Creative Awards. We prefer previously unpublished work, but it’s fine if it’s gone up on a personal blog or somewhere with a low circulation.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to pay contributors for their submissions, but we will endeavour to provide you with feedback on your work (which is invaluable!).

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate in either messaging the Facebook page or emailing us.
